Christians consider that belief and practise go together. We share a view of the world: that it is God’s creation, he continues to love and sustain it, that he reveals himself supremely in Jesus of Nazareth and acts through him decisively to save the world, and that that his Spirit continues to press home his long-term plan, characteristically through acting within believers and the church. The New Testament is clear that one cannot believe these things and carry on regardless. ‘Faith without works is dead.’ So Christianity is not merely a set of beliefs but a way of life. We are commissioned by Christ to make a difference to where we are. We rely on regular spiritual practises to train us in the ways of Jesus. |
